Officials have linked the demolition of Deep West Resort to a land dispute with the ministry of education.

The restaurant is owned by controversial businesswoman Joyce Akinyi and was Saturday morning demolished by unknown people.

Officials aware of the saga said the land had been led to Akinyi and her estranged husband Anthony Chinedu in 2002 before they put up the hotel there under New Port Inn.

The more than half an acre piece of land belongs to the Kenya School of the Blind.

The lease apparently expired in January 2020 and the owners say Akinyi has not paid her rent since then.

She had apparently filed an injunction at the rent tribunal court asking for more time to vacate and the rent had accrued to Sh2 million.

Akinyi says the matter was scheduled for ruling on February 17 but the judge recused himself before delivering the ruling and she intends to seek compensation for the destruction of her property.
