A son of a village elder who allegedly attempted to rape a woman Sunday evening has gone into hiding.

It is alleged that the panga wielding 17-year-old boy waylaid the woman as she walked home late evening on the busy Maraba-Kabirer road with the intention of raping her.

Kabutiei location Chief Daudi Sang told KNA Monday that the woman wailed at the top of her voice and the teen fled as irate villagers responded to the woman's alarm.

He said the boy has been identified as a son to a local village elder. He is said to have completed class eight last year but refused to join form one like his peers.

"The woman identified as Rosa Limo, reported the matter to me and I established that the suspect is the village elder's school dropout son," said the chief.

He said he had notified the police about the incident and they were pursuing the suspect.

"However much he hides, the boy will soon be arrested and made to face the law," said the Chief.

Contacted for comment, the father and village elder David Maiyo admitted that the boy was turning into a dangerous criminal saying the law must be allowed to take its course.

"He refused to join form one at Kabutiei Secondary school where he had been admitted and now he is getting into crime. Let him face the law," said Maiyo.
