Police in Kirinyaga County is investigating an incident to unravel the cause of death of a senior police officer who was attached to the Wang'uru police station in Mwea East.
According to Kirinyaga county police commander Bernard Korir, the officer Julius Mwangi Ndungu, 56, who served in the position of an OCS at the station collapsed and died on Monday morning.
His death however was to be discovered in the afternoon hours by junior police officers.
"One of the junior officers from the station went to see him in his official residence at around 11 am but the door to his house was locked from the inside. The officer knocked countless times, the OCS was not responding,” Korir told the media.
With no sign of showing up for some hours, it is said that the officer and other of his colleagues suspected that something was wrong after which they headed straight to his house and broke the door to gain access. His body according to Korir was found on the floor uninjured.
He said an autopsy would be conducted in the course of the week to establish what might have caused his death.
Asked whether the officer had registered any case of medical-related illness in the course of his service, the top boss noted that he was not aware.
His kin were informed of his death and the body was moved to Mwea mission hospital.
