Police in Kwanza Sub County has arrested a 28-year-old man at Siyoi village in Amuka location accused of killing his 65-year-old mother for allegedly refusing to give him cash to buy liquor.

Confirming the incident to Kenya News Agency (KNA), Trans Nzoia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Mr Francis Kihara said Robin Oyori Osuna was said to have committed the murder on Monday night.

Police records indicated the suspected murderer violently dragged the mother, Mrs Agnes Chepkorir Kosgei, from her bedroom to a toilet before stabbing her several times in the chest using a knife.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the suspect is an alcoholic who has been often roughing up the mother while demanding money from her,” said Kihara.

"The suspect beat up the mother after she denied him cash to purchase alcohol on Friday. He forcefully sold two sheep belonging to the mother over the weekend, which forced the deceased to report the matter to security officers on Monday," Kihara told KNA.

The CCIO said the suspect turned extremely violent on Monday at around 8:00 pm when he demanded more cash from her monthly pension payment.

"When she refused, he proceeded to the kitchen where retrieved a knife, dragged the helpless mother from the bedroom to toilet before stabbing her,” reported Kihara, adding the murder suspect immediately alerted a close neighbour about the gory incident.

The neighbour raised the alarm which attracted residents led by area Chief Mr Joseph Wekesa and village elders who nabbed the suspect who was hiding in the mother’s bedroom before taking him to the nearby Maili Saba Police Station.

Scene of crime officers visited the home where they found the body of the deceased sprawled in a pool of blood and also recovered the knife.  The body was removed to Kitale County Referral Hospital pending post-mortem.

According to the CCIO, the suspect will be arraigned in court to answer to murder charges.
