After 4.30 pm, Chege surrendered himself at Kangema police station where he was held as police embarked on investigations.
The suspect claimed that he was angry after he found his girlfriend with a man at the bar where she was working as a bar attendant.
Those who were in the bar claimed that chaos ensued when Chege arrived at the bar before he removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the woman in the neck and chest.
One of the local residents, Jane Mwaniki regretted the friendship between a 27-year-old woman and that of a 20-year-old boy.
She said gender-based violence should be brought to an end by educating both young and older persons on how to embrace dialogue in solving disputes instead of resulting in violence.
“The boy who just completed his secondary education eloped with a woman above his age. Let there be a limit to ensure there is sanity to avoid deaths in matters related to love,” she observed.
Murang’a County Criminal Investigation Officer Daniel Kandie said the matter is under investigation as they await to arraign the suspect in court to face a murder charge.
“The assailant is in police custody as the killer weapon was recovered,” said Kandie while he urged the locals to seek advice from the elderly persons if they felt offended by their friends.
