A 33-year-old man who had been charged with the murder of a six-year-old girl in London location of Narok County will now serve 10 years imprisonment after he was convicted on a lesser charge of manslaughter.

William Kinoti had appealed for a review of the sentence before Narok High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo.

Justice Gikonyo however cautioned that the convict could not benefit from a non-custodial sentence, owing to the seriousness of the offence.

This was after the court was informed that the convict had reconciled with the victim's family after paying Sh200, 000.

The minor was killed in April 2019 at their rented house in London Estate, Narok town while trying to stop a fight between the culprit and his father Mr. Edgar Opama.

The court heard that the little girl found Kinoti having stabbed his father in the face and tried to intervene but was accidentally stabbed on the neck and died on the spot.

A post-mortem report indicated the girl died due to a haemorrhage caused by a ruptured blood vessel.

Justice Gikonyo said there was enough evidence to prove that the young man killed the minor by stabbing her and jailed him for 10 years.
