Divers from Bomet County Disaster Management department are searching for the body of a Bomet University College student who was Sunday confirmed to have drowned at Kimaya Falls, Chepalungu Sub County, Bomet.
Disaster Management Officer Stanley Mutai said the divers were currently at the scene after failing to retrieve the body yesterday.
Mutai said the 24-year-old second-year student had visited the scenic Kimaya falls where he and three others took several photographs before deciding to swim.
He said the deceased did not know how to swim and that might have led to the tragic turn of events.
The officer said the divers were well equipped and that they expected to retrieve the body today.
According to Chepalungu Sub County Police Commander Nelson Masai, two of his colleagues attempted to save the deceased but their efforts proved futile because the river was fast flowing.
He cautioned the members of the public against swimming in swollen rivers especially when they do not know how to swim.
