A 40-year-old man committed suicide after he slashed his wife aged 37 with a panga in Kyakithuku village Kyamouso location in Kilungu Sub-county on Sunday.
In the 3 pm incident, the assailant Kiendi Maithia armed himself with a panga and attacked his wife Esther Kiendi who is admitted at Kyambeke dispensary in serious condition and being treated for head, hand and shoulder injuries.
Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan confirmed the incident, saying the motive of the attack is not known and added that the body of the deceased was found dangling from the roof of their house with a piece of cloth around his neck.
"The woman suffered serious injuries on the head, both hands and left shoulder. However, she raised an alarm and was rescued by neighbours who rushed her to Kyambeke dispensary where she is admitted for treatment. The deceased locked himself in their house and hanged himself," said the county Police Commander.
The father to the deceased Muiya Maika Yalo reported the incident and the body of the deceased was taken to Kilungu Sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
