A Busia court has slammed a self-confessed child trafficker with a 31-years jail sentence after pleading guilty to the offence.
Evans Shiundu Kadima was given an alternative of Sh 30 million fine after pleading guilty to kidnapping a 14-year-old girl from Namanga, Matungu Kakamega County.
He had been charged that between September 8 and 11, 2021 he took the teenager without her consent to work as a housemaid without pay at a home in Funyula Busia County.
Chief Magistrate Busia Law Courts Lucy Ambasi, sentenced Kadima 30-year imprisonment or pay a fine of Sh 30 million for engaging in human trafficking and additional 1-year imprisonment for interfering with child education.
“We have received several cases of human trafficking that happen across the border and the girl child is the most affected,” she said, “We are working hand in hand with the police to ensure that every child is in safe hands,” she affirmed.
Parents have been advised to take care and have a close watch of their children to avoid such scenarios of child disappearance.
