The sudden death of World 10,000m bronze medalist Agnes Tirop has sent shock waves across the world.

The promising young talent was found dead in her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County on Wednesday.

The 2015 World Cross Country champion had several stab wounds according to reports.

Police are currently at the scene of the crime where crowds have gathered to witness the shocking incident.

According to sources, Tirop has been living at an athletics camp after differing with her husband.

However, two days ago, she returned to her matrimonial home following reconciliation with relatives and friends.

Her fellow athletes; Janet Jepkosgey and Milka Chemos have also been to the home where the murder occurred and have viewed the body.

The duo broke down and were emotional after viewing the body.

Tirop was the second youngest athlete to ever win gold at the World Cross Country Championship in 2015.

She as also part of Team Kenya's representative at the Tokyo Olympics.
