A 31-year-old teacher died Friday  in a road accident in the Kobama area, along Ndhiwa-Sori Road in Central Kwabwai Location, Ndhiwa Sub County.

The deceased identified as Gordon Okumu was a head teacher of Starlight Academy in Ratanga trading centre. The road accident involved a tractor transporting sugarcane to Sukari Industry and a motorbike.

According to Senior Chief of Central Kwabwai Location Patrick Lumumba, the teacher died on the spot when the motorbike he was traveling on from Ndhiwa towards Ratanga collided head on with the tractor which was loaded with sugarcane.

The administrator said that the tractor had only one headlight which confused the bodaboda rider and when the rider tried to give way, he collided head-on.

‘‘The tractor had only one headlight which made the motorbike rider mistake it for a motorbike,’’ said Lumumba.

He said that the rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in a critical condition, while the teacher was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral hospital where he was pronounced dead

Mr. Lumumba further appealed to the county government to ban tractors from transporting sugarcane to the industry past 7pm to prevent similar incidents in future.

The deceased body was later moved to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
