A Kericho court has ordered that a couple linked to the brutal murder of a 30-year-old man be held for ten days at Litein police station, Bureti sub-county, Kericho.
The victim Shadrack Tororei was allegedly attacked over a love dispute.
Police Constable Benson Chirchir requested more time for purposes of conducting a postmortem on the deceased person, recording of witnesses statements, additional time to enable him to escort the two to Kisumu Government Chemist to extract DNA samples in addition to escorting the accused persons to Kericho County referral hospital for a mental check-up.
PC Chirchir in his affidavit said “I am investigating a case of murder. The offence was committed at Morit village in Bureti sub-county within Kericho County on 21 September 2021 whereby the accused murdered Shadrack Tororei.
That police need more time for purposes of conducting a postmortem on the deceased person, statements by witnesses are yet to be recorded and investigations which will take some days are also yet to be completed.
The police need more time to escort the suspects to Kisumu Government Chemist to extract DNA samples and the suspects be escorted to Kericho County Referral Hospital for mental checkups.
I swear this affidavit in support of the application to detain the respondents at Litein police station for 10 days to enable us complete investigations."
Consequently, Kericho Resident Magistrate Elizabeth Karani ordered the two to be detained to facilitate the probe.
Allan Kipkirui Rop, 29, is said to have attacked the deceased accusing him of eloping with his estranged wife.
According to police, the deceased was in the company of Carolyne Chepkirui Rop when he was attacked by Allan Kipkirui Rop.
The 27-year-old woman is said to have been in a relationship with the deceased and on the fateful day, her estranged husband waylaid the deceased at a grazing field where they had just finished engaging in a sexual encounter.
Rop savagely attacked Tororei using a wooden stick hitting him severally on the head before fleeing the scene leaving him bleeding profusely. The victim was later rushed to AIC Litein mission hospital where he died on arrival.
It was Carolyne who made a call to the police.
The matter will be mentioned on October 4 this year.
