Gone too soon! Body of missing girl found in sack

The body of a 13-year-old girl who went missing three weeks ago was retrieved on Monday this week near Rwarai River in Mutonga Sub location Mukurwe-ini Constituency Nyeri County.

Margaret Waithera, a form one student at Ngamwa Secondary school went missing on 29th August this year. 

Her body, stashed in a sack was noticed by fishermen who were on their daily business of fishing in river Rwarai just a kilometre away from her home.

According to Mukurwe-ini Sub County Police Commander, Jesse Mwakiria, police were notified of the body near the river and upon arriving at the scene, it was established that the body was that of the missing girl.

Mwakiria told the media that the family had reported a case of a missing child and police had launched investigations. 

According to Mwakiria, the police went to the scene where the body was found and they collected material for forensic investigations from the scene before taking the body to the mortuary awaiting postmortem. 

“Investigations have already begun and so far, we have very good leads and I am hopeful in a few days we will arrest the suspected perpetrators,” Mwakiria said.

Mwakiria has also appealed to parents to be more vigilant with minors and to be more careful with the people they leave their children with.

The area MCA Mary Wamuyu, has called upon the national government to tighten security in the area since there was such a similar incident in the same area a month ago.

The family of the deceased is yet to come to terms with the loss as they wait for investigations and justice for their daughter. 

Maina Kigio, the uncle of the deceased, also urged the government to hasten the investigations and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous act.
