• She insulted him following an altercation over a lost medical report in respect of Mumbua’s husband.
A 53-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to a one-year non-custodial jail term by a Makueni court for assaulting his daughter-in-law.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate (CM) James Mwaniki, the accused, Onesmus Keli Nyamai pleaded guilty to assaulting and causing grievous bodily harm to Nancy Mumbua Mukanda.
Keli committed the offense on August 30, at Miseke in Kathonzweni Sub-county where he assaulted the complainant causing her actual bodily harm.
The court heard that the accused assailed his daughter-in-law after she insulted him following an altercation over a lost medical report in respect of Mumbua’s husband.
In mitigation, Keli told the court that he committed the offense due to anger and was remorseful thereby willing to reconcile with the complainant.
According to a pre-sentence report before the court, the probation officer proposed an out-of-jail sentence for Keli describing him as a calm and first-time offender.
In his ruling, Mwaniki said that based on the probation report before him he found Keli fit for a non-custodial sentence and subsequently sentenced him to one-year probation.
