A man hacked his brother to death in a quarrel over a three-seater couch in Nyeri’s Kamakwa area.

Police say the assailant acted under the instructions of his mother.

Joseph Maina Kariuki, 36, is reported to have gone to the house of his younger brother Elias Muriithi Kariuki to repossess the couch, a move that the latter was opposed to.

A quarrel had ensued before the two came to blows.

In the process, Muriithi, 33, had then brandished a machete with which he occasioned serious cuts to his elder brother, before smashing his head.

The suspect walked to Mathari police post where he was detained over the incident.

Meanwhile, police in Kirinyaga are probing an incident in which the body of an unidentified man was found dumped in a sack near the bank of river Nyamindi.

The body was found by women who had gone to collect firewood in the area.

They then raised alarm, attracting the attention of locals who called the police.

Detectives from Wang’uru police station who responded to the report said they are treating the matter as a murder.

Residents living along the Nyamindi river and the surrounding areas are worried over the increased cases of bodies dumped in the river.
