He describes how the chaos at Kahawa West began, "From 2 am in the morning I kept hearing gunshots, it was dramatic. When I left the house to check what all that was about, I found the place where I work, I have a pool place, had been demolished."
He continued, "When I went there the cops were also rough on me and beat me up. Then the chaos started because we chased the cops away. They left the first time and came back with reinforcement with tear gas. The residents then came out in full force to chase the cops away. But to say the truth we have not worked at all. We have been oppressed."
Another trader who goes by the name Boike was fed up, speaking to Mpasho he said, "Kama wanataka wanitafute naishi nyumba ya mabati. Hawa watu wametuharibia kazi yetu. Tunajua hao watu wanaharibia hustler soko. Mwingine hadi kuku zimepotea hadi nguruwe imepotea. Sasa tufanye nini? Uliza mheshimiwa."
(If they want to find me they can come, I live here in a tin house they can come. These people have messed up our lives and livelihood, we are hustlers and our businesses have been destroyed, someone came and found his chicken have all gotten lost another one his pigs are not there. what can we do? Go ask the mheshimiwa.)
