Fear and anxiety have gripped Mirera village in Naivasha after unknown people murdered a middle-aged man and made away with his head.

The decapitated body of the victim was found near a railway line as police moved in to collect the torso and mount a search for the missing head.

Emotions ran high after the 35-year-old man was identified as John Karanja who worked as a casual laborer in the sprawling estate.

A couple of months back, a woman was found murdered in the area and her legs missing in what is now suspected to be a ritual killing.

According to Dedan Kariuki, they were still in shock as to the motive behind the murder of their younger brother whom he described as very humble.

While calling on police to act and arrest those responsible for the beastly murder, Kariuki said that his brother was not involved with any criminal gang or cult.

“My brother was killed in the most inhumane manner ever over unknown reasons and his blood will haunt those responsible,” he said.

Hellsgate MCA Virginia Wamaitha called on area residents to volunteer any information to the police so that those responsible could be arrested.

Wamaitha who is also the area MCA said that they would work hand in hand with the police to make sure that the head was recovered and those involved nabbed.

“A couple of months back another woman was killed and her legs are yet to be recovered and we fear that this could be a cult targeting human organs,” she said.

A village elder Peter Chege attributed the murder to a gang of youths who were openly peddling bhang near a railway line passing through the area.

“This is a very poor man who worked as a casual labourer and we are yet to understand the motive as we move in search for the head,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that they had sought the community’s assistance in searching for the head.

“On Sunday morning residents of Mirera found the body of a man dumped in the area with the head missing and we have launched investigations,” he said.
