Police in Homa Bay County are investigating the death of a 40-year-old teacher at Mariri Primary School who was found lying on his bed in Kombogo Kokoth village, North Kabuoch location in Ndhiwa Sub County Sunday evening.

The deceased, identified as James Odhiambo Okoth, was found lying by his brother who became suspicious when he failed to wake up.

Relatives said that the teacher has been staying alone after separating with his wife several months ago.

He left his mother’s house on Saturday night to go sleep after the evening meal but that was the last time he was seen alive.

According to the area Assistant Chief Nancy Atieno, Odhiambo’s brother went to his house and found the door loosely closed from inside and when he pushed the door, he was surprised to find the teacher’s body lying on the bed.

‘‘I received a report that Okoths’ body was found lying on his bed by his brother who became suspicious of his whereabouts,’’ assistant chief Atieno said.

Atieno said that Okoth had been a renowned drunkard, the reason why he separated from his wife.

The administrator said that it's still unclear what could have caused the teacher’s death since there were no physical injuries on his body nor any sign to show that he had been drinking before his death.

The body was later moved to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary by officers from Ndhiwa Police station to await a post-mortem to unravel the cause of his death.
