Grief and shock engulfed residents of Gathukeini Village in Murang’a County after the body of a 56-year old woman was found dumped in a pit well.

Monicah Waithira Mwangi went missing on Sunday evening only for her body to be found dumped in the well of her neighbour.

Local security officers said residents made a report at a nearby police post about the incident, forcing officers to embark on efforts of retrieving the body.

Efforts by the county disaster management team assisted by local residents managed to remove the body from a 20-feet well.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the mother of three was raped before she strangled. She had injuries on her face that were suspected to have been caused by being hit with a blunt object

“It also appeared that the criminals who killed the lady also tried to insert a beer bottle in her private parts,” stated the county disaster manager Ms Bilha Wanjiku.

Murang’a county Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairlady Esther Nyambura condemned the incident calling police officers to apprehend the people behind the heinous crime.

“The lady died a very painful death. Locals in this village are living in fear after murder of one of their villagers. We ask security officers to increase patrol and tame criminal activities in this locality,” decried Nyambura.

She said women are living in fear after the incident saying in the past other women have been sexually abused.

“In the past several women from various parts of this county have been sexually abused but these cases are not properly investigated. We want police officers to hunt and arrest the people who killed Waithira,” she lamented.

The body was taken to Murang’a Level-5 Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
