Four people have died in a grisly accident along Nairobi- Mombasa highway at Mlolongo, Machakos County.

Mlolongo assistant county commissioner Dennis Ongaga said the four died on the spot after a Nissan matatu they were travelling in rammed into a stationary trailer opposite the Total petrol station on the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The matatu registration number KCN 289 P belonging to MAPRA Sacco was headed to Nairobi during the incident.

"It's reported that about 4:53am at Mombasa Road opposite Total Petrol station a Nissan has crushed from behind a stationery Trailer.

Four passengers onboard in the Nissan are confirmed dead instantly, others number to be confirmed are reported to be seriously injured," Ongaga said via phone on Wednesday.

Ongaga said Athi River Subcounty Police Traffic Base Commander had been informed to attend the scene.
