Are These The Crappy Stadiums Jubilee Promised Us?

Who recalls the Jubilee manifesto? Well,I do One of them was how to improve sports in Kenya by building 5 international standard stadiums countrywide and upgrading the existing ones but none has been done so far.

In their manifesto, Jubilee government promised to provide both national and domestic leagues with all support they require while respecting their autonomy but nothing has been done. Some of the football clubs suffer due to lack of sponsors and many footballers languish in poverty as they have nothing to save from the peanuts they earn.

Jubilee also promised to facilitate and encourage better management of sports and pronominalization sports through introduction of professional coaches in schools yet nothing has been done so far and that's why we always experience hooliganism during our matches due to lack of trained/professional coaches and referees who spoil our matches due to poor officiating.

If you thought playing without medical cover was a problem to most KPL teams, then watch the lower tiers super League and Division 2 where no ambulance is available during matches to administer first aid in case of injuries which are imminent since soccer is contact game.

Our sportsmen still have a hard time when it comes to training facilities. For example, some Kenyan Premier League teams still train under harsh conditions. Grounds like Shauri Moyo, Jericho, Gusii stadium  and Kionoru meru stadium are some of the worst stadiums in the country yet some matches are even played there. The old city stadium is in a pathetic condition after the FIFA installed artificial turf weared off for being overused by teams and players get serious bruises from the hot carpet during matches

Governor Kidero recently gave Gor Mahia a notice to look for an alternative ground to pave way for renovations but that still remains a blue print. I don’t count Machakos stadium as international since the  metallic stands are just a time bomb. Sports journalists have no press centers in the stadiums and have to work under harsh conditions in the terraces competing for space with fans who depending on their mood decide whether the matches will end or not. Our goal project at Kasarani which is suppose to have an academy, hostels for players and a club house for the national team is acting as a chicken pen, don’t ask me why. You can contact our soccer chief’s whose part time job is circus.

Kenya is still lagging behind in terms of sports. Corruption, impunity and lack of skilled employees in the sports docket, illetracy by those in the hierarchy affects our sports. Untill we copy our neighbors and tiny countries like Cape Verde Island, among others who have invested big time in the most famous game. At the moment we will still kill each others in the stadia, cause chaos teargas each other which seems the order of the day. Former French coach Bernard Lama once said

“Abnormal is normal in  Kenyan soccer”

Yes you guessed right; he only lasted on match. I concur with him The soonest the government invests big in the sports department we are doomed.

Here are some of the photos of Gusii stadium home ground to the upcoming new league leaders.
