A 60 year old man spent Tuesday night in Busia police station after setting his residential house in Samaki estate ablaze.

George Otieno is said to have arrived at his rented house from his rural home at Sega, Siaya County at around midnight and found his two children who told him that their mother had gone to a pub in Busia town.

Otieno called his wife via a mobile phone and confirmed the same and filled with fury, he proceeded to Busia town where he bought half a litre of petrol which he later sprinkled in the sitting room before setting it ablaze.

Confirming the incident, Busia County Deputy Police Commander Richard Cheruiyot said that the accused later presented himself at the police station.

Cheruiyot added that members of the public assisted in putting off the fire before it could spread to other houses.

“However, property of unknown value got burnt in the sitting room but nobody was injured during the incident,” he said.

The police boss urged couples to solve their issues amicably instead of resorting to such criminal acts, adding that the suspect will soon be arraigned in court and charged with arson.
