Citizen TV journalist attacked by machete wielding carjackers (photos)

Two journalists escaped death narrowly at Gesinga in Nyaribari Chache in Kisii Thursday night.

This was after two machete wielding goons blocked their a car at a rough road in what police believe was a carjacking attempt.

Citizen TV's Chrispin Otieno and Milele radio correspondent Monica Zabibu were traveling back from an assignment when a man driving a Suzuki D-Max pick up drove fast past them before blocking the Probox car they were traveling in midway before ordering them out.

He was armed with a machete and simi, they said moments after villagers responded to their alarm.

A villager said one other vehicle, a mini truck, joined them at the scene and joined the other suspect in attacking the journalists.

Mr Otieno was injured in the leg after he tripped in the nearby maize farm where he fled to before police responded.

Journalist Zabibu and two other passengers who were in the Probox car were later rescued by villagers and the police.

Zabibu said they had gone to cover a charity event at Gesinga area when the incident occurred minute to 8 at night.

Kisii County police Commander Jebel Munene has since deployed police to the scene to begin investigations.
