In the past decade, the number of street  families has increased in Kenya with Nairobi county leading. The CBD is a no go zone especially at night, these urchins  always pose as beggars and once you get closer to them, they rob you and vanish in the dark streets of river road.

Earlier on today, several street children were injured in a clash between them and mechanics in Grogan area, Nairobi. The clash turned bloody after the mechanics chased the children from the area accusing them of harassing and stealing from their clients.

The street families were reluctant to move and said they had no where to live because they are usually arrested and beaten up by the city council askaris whenever they venture into the CBD. They later marched to the Central police station to seek the help of police in vain.

Police said there was little they could do to contain the clashes. The mechanics said their clients usually fear to visit them because of the harassment from the street children. Police have urged motorists to be cautious when near the place.
