Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai Karanja was found by neighbours lying lifeless outside their house in Shela Lamu.

Tecra was rushed to hospital but passed away on May 2, 2020 after being hospitalised with a swelling in the brain.

Swelling or inflammation is part of the body’s natural response to injury.

This lead to a traumatic brain injury called cerebral edema where fluid builds up around the brain, causing an increase in pressure known as intracranial pressure.

If edema occurs in the brain, however, it can cause severe complications.

Cerebral edema can restrict the supply of blood to the brain.

Blood carries oxygen to the brain, which the brain requires to function.

A lack of oxygen in the brain can damage brain cells or cause them to die.

Detectives investigating the death claim Tecra fell in her home in Shela, Lamu.

Tecra was found unresponsive at the bottom of the staircase leading to their cottage by neighbours who woke up her boyfriend.

He was still asleep unaware that his girlfriend lay unconscious at their staircase.

The investigations are still underway.
