Militants from terror group Al-Shabaab launched an attack in Arabia town in Mandera county on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, targeting an Administration Police post.

Reports say that the attackers stormed the camp, just 100 kilometres from Mandera town, some minutes before midnight and burnt a police vehicle.

However, the number of casualties at the police post is yet to be confirmed as the militants had also destroyed a telecommunication mast cutting off communication in the vast area.

North Eastern regional commander Mohamud Saleh confirmed the attack and said a response team to check on the casualties had been sent.

“There is no communication with officers on the ground but there was an attack there. Teams are heading there,” he said.

The Wednesday attack comes just days after the terrorists raided a Kenya Defence Forces camp in Kulbiyow, in Lower Juba region of Somalia where tens of KDF soldiers were killed and others injured.
