Body of man whose car plunged into Indian Ocean retrieved - photos

The body of the driver of the Likoni Ill fated car (Reg. KBX 475B) has been taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary by Ferry police vehicle.

The man was identified as the John Mutinda.

The recovery exercise was being done by a combined team of Kenya Coast Guard Service, The Kenya Navy, and our rescue team.

This accident came barely three months after the car of Mariam Kigenda plunged into the Indian Ocean killing her alongside her daughter Amanda.

Efforts to retrieve the bodies took weeks.

A witness identified as Nyalo at the time of the accident said,

'DADA ALITOA MKONO NJE YA DIRISHA LAKINI HAKUNA USAIDIZI WALIPATA. GARI ILIKAA JUU YA MAJI ZAIDI YA DAKIKA ISHIRINI KABLA YA KUZAMA.

[THE 35-YEAR-OLD MOTHER TRIED TO WAVE THROUGH THE WINDOW BEGGING FOR HELP BUT NO ONE WENT TO SAVE HER AND HER DAUGHTER.

THE VEHICLE FLOATED FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT SANK.] THERE WAS NO SPEED BOAT TO SAVE THEM.'
