Body of drowned University student found floating in river

The body of a Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology student who drowned a week ago was yesterday found floating at a river bank near Gatiki bridge, Mukurweini Sub- County.

Ezra Mwangi Njenga drowned at Sagana River on Thursday evening last week where he and friends had gone for a swimming expedition.

Njenga, 22, was a fourth year student taking Actuarial Science and had two weeks remaining to tackle his final exam before tragedy struck.

The body was found about seven kilometers from the scene where he drowned at Muruguru Ward, Nyeri Central Sub County and swept by the raging floods to Gatiki Bridge in Mukurweini sub-county.

A statement from the University students’ council read in part, ”We would like to inform you we have recovered the body of Ezra Mwangi Njenga who went missing on 21, 2019 while swimming at Sagana falls.”

The council secretary general Franklin Manyara sent condolences to the family, friends, classmates and the entire Dedan Kimathi fraternity for the loss of their colleague.

“We have lost a great mind and a hero in our institution,” Manyara said.

The deceased hailed from Kinangop constituency, Nyandarua County and his family had been camping in Nyeri for the last one week awaiting recovery of his body.
