Residents of Marewa village in Muranga East Sub-County on Monday woke up to a rude shock after a woman and her lover were found dead in their house.

Body of Theresia Mumbi, 37, was found lying on the bed as that of her lover was found in the sitting room hanging from the roof.

Residents allege that the man, Francis Mwangi killed Mumbi before committing suicide.

A neighbour who sought anonymity observed that she visited the home in the morning and found the door closed.

“No one answered after knocking on the door severally. I peeped through a window and saw the body of Mwangi dangling from the rooftop. I screamed alerting villagers who came and broke the door,” said the neighbor.

The villager said she was returning seats she had borrowed the previous day only to be greeted by the incident.

Bloodstains were spotted in the house where the two bodies were found, but the body of the woman had no major physical injuries.

Local residents claimed that they have been having domestic differences for a while, saying the hostility could have led to the murder.

They noted that the man was living at the house of the woman for several months but they were not officially married.

Area Chief Bernard Kagoto said the murder left many locals wondering, as such an incident has never been witnessed in the village.

Confirming the incident, Kagoto appealed to people especially those who live together to seek alternative ways of solving differences instead of opting to murder.

“We hear cases of homicides in other parts of the country but today, our village was shocked after losing a man and a lady. People need to employ other ways of solving problems instead of opting to murder,” added the Chief.

The bodies were removed and taken to Murang’a Level 5 hospital for postmortem.
