Self-confessed homosexual Binyavanga Wainaina was on Saturday honored at the 'Africa's Out' event that took place in New York.

Africa's Out is an initiative by American-based Kenyan artist Wangeci Mutu. It's a platform to initiate and create radical ideas that change the way we engage with Africa, Africa Out! is a unique way for Africans to reach out to empower one another as well as promote cultural understanding.

In a world that forces people to hide their true selves, ! celebrates each person's right to love freely!

That's where Binyavanga Wainaina met American singer and songwriter Janelle Monae among other Hollywood celebrities. Binyavanga wore a dress (not a tutu this time) designed by South Africa's Siphokazi Dana.
