Youth is a time of exuberance and exploration with some taking it too far. Many a time when we were younger we broke some rules either at home or those at school?

It has emerged that a student at Muthambi Girls’ High School in Tharaka-Nithi County was sent back home for carrying sweets into the school. The penalty for this act was even more ridiculous as the teaching institution mandated that the girl bring back a sack of maize and beans when she reported.

According to a letter seen by Nairobi News the parents are required to also clear a fees balances for the girls.

This case has reminded me that there are a few weird rules that still dominate the landscape of some Kenyan schools and they are strictly followed.

They are:

-The hem on a girls skirt should be below the knee.

-Not wearing necklaces or chains in the school.

-No wearing of additional clothing over school issued uniform even though the weather is below zero.(I exxagerate).

-No wearing of bikers. You should wear petty-coats.

-No bar soaps allowed because it would clog the drains.

-Only melanin plates allowed. Glass ones are forbidden.

-No juice allowed- The thinking is that

-No cooked food in the dormitory.

-Natural hair for ladies.

-On must have a good news bible when going to school. If not, the student is returned back home to get it.

-No long-sleeved shirts. only scouts allowed.
