Betty Kyallo has finally decided to call it quits at KTN. The bubbly television anchor has taken the plunge that many radio and television personalities have this year, she has left the station she has called home for many years.
The step was unexpected, not in that she would leave but that she would go to K24. Ouch! Why would I say that? There are 3 major television stations in Kenya that being NTV, KTN and Citizen. These stations provide the most clout for any presenter or anchor trying make and leave a mark.
Sadly speaking, K24 does not have that same influence on audiences. Apart from the record-breaking and ratchet Nairobi Dairies, how popular and prestigious is K24?
The two positives from her move are that she is most likely getting a handsome raise to go to the station. Also, she will probably be the big Kahuna on K24. This will make her the face of the station unlike the 3 other stations were she will compete with other top-notch names.
So for me, those two reasons are plentiful enough for her to leave. I know I would. The only problem is that this move might make her irrelevant in the future.
The type of stature that KTN was able to afford the mother of one might not be forthcoming in her new role at K24. And while the pain of reduced exposure to KTN’s huge audience might be lessened by the money she will be making, it will still be painful for her.
