One of the most fun and head-turning looks of the night at the 2019 Met Gala was Lupita Nyong’o who stunned in her rainbow ensemble.
From gravity-defying hair to a multi-metallic make-up look, here’s how her team created such a memorable beauty moment.
Lupita Nyongo is always a treat on the red carpet, need we remind you of the tour de force that was her Us premiere circuit? and once again, she did not disappoint at the 2019 Met Gala.
Wearing Versace, as selected by Nyong’o, her longtime stylist Micaela Erlanger and Donatella herself, the look was a fabulously fun ode to the camp theme.
Her hair was styled by Vernon Francis, who said that he took inspiration from Marie Antoinette, as well as a self-portrait by artist Lauren Kelley, while her adorned nails were by Casey Herman.
Her make-up artist, Nick Barose spoke about how he fashioned her look, complete with molten metal lids and radiant skin.
The final look – a flamboyant column gown made of crystal embroidered stars and metallic macramé with accompanying sculptural ruffled jacket and matching fan – was inspired by the iconic personalities who Versace holds dear.
her designer Erlanger explained that.
“We looked at a number of sketches, but this particular one stood out because the colour, the materials and the play on volume were perfect for the theme,”
Add glamazon Donatella Versace into the mix and sure-fire Met Gala success was guaranteed from the trio on the campest night of the year.
He added that
“It felt like the perfect opportunity to work together again and I think the gown will get the kind of wow response we hope for.”
