Nakuru-based comedians, Propesa, are in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. One of its members,  Dennis Ruto who plays the role of Larry Matayo, was arrested yesterday for election fraud.

The news of his arrest hit the interwebs like wild fire. A video emerged of the Propesa member being frogmarched to the Nyayo Stadium police station after he was allegedly caught with election material.

According to the Election Offence Act of 2010, a person who—

(a) without authority takes out of a polling station any ballot paper or is found in possession of any ballot paper outside a polling station;

(b) not being an election official and not being authorised, removes election material from a polling station before, during or after an election;

(c) without authority prints any ballot paper or what purports to be or is capable of being used as a ballot paper at an election;

commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding Sh1 million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six years or to both.

At the time of going to press, IEBC officials were yet to comment on the full magnitude of Larry Matayo's case.

Well, two of the members belonging to Propesa crew have spoken out claiming that it was just a prank.

"Why would they think this would be something to joke about? Somebody needs to advise these guys on boundaries," Carol Radull Wrote.

"We ain't fools stop trying to convince us that it was a joke, your guy was involved in an electoral offence,chezeni chini, whatever it is it's in bad taste," another social media user posted.
