The mystery surrounding the killing of an unidentified male motorist who was on Tuesday night shot dead on the Thika Highway near Waitethie area intensifies.
His vehicle, a Mercedes Benz with registration number KCE 183Z, was sprayed with several bullets killing him instantly.
Officials say the slain man was blocked by another vehicle at around 10:00 PM near the Vincentian Prayer Center and shot dead before the attackers escaped towards the local market and later to Nairobi.
The identity of the deceased still remains unknown even as police intimate that they are following crucial leads. Such incidents are not new in Kenya.
Meanwhile last night alone there were a number of armed robberies reported.
Police are looking for a gang that carjacked two matatus in Buruburu area and robbed passengers of their valuables and cash.
The matatus were ferrying passengers from the city centre to Umoja and Buruburu when they were attacked by men armed with pistols and knives.
Victims and police say the first bus was attacked near Burma Market along Jogoo Road when men who had posed as passengers struck and demanded cash, rings and other valuables.
After they had exhausted their mission, they alighted along Jogoo Road and attacked another matatu by also grabbing cash and other valuables from the passengers and crew. The attackers later alighted to a dark alley near Buruburu and no arrest has been made.
The crew of both buses are being held for interrogation as the hunt on the men goes on. This is the latest such incident to happen in two weeks where passengers have been attacked and robbed in the city.

The former Kabete MP, his driver and two bodyguards were shot dead in Nairobi on the dawn of February 6, 2015. The four were in the same sport utility vehicle ahead of another vehicle carrying family members, including the MP’s wife and a daughter.
The occupants of the second vehicle said the MP stopped at the roundabout when four people with big guns approached his car and started shooting.
“They just started spraying it with bullets. When we saw that, our driver sped past the other car and when we came back to the scene a few minutes later, all the occupants of the vehicle were dead,” the relative told detectives at the scene.
A newspaper vendor who witnessed the shooting told the police that one of the gunmen who led the shooting had a face mask.

The records at the morgue show that the cause of their deaths was drowning.

According to a report on the Daily Nation, Dan said he identified the lawyer, “because he was my friend. He was a tiny guy but his body is too swollen … likely they killed him a long time ago,” he said outside the mortuary.
