But he isn’t happy with all his children. Why? Geoffrey Omondi Nyong’o and Kenneth Odhiambo Okuth sued Nyong’o over the administration of their late grandfather’s estate – which is estimated to be worth Sh200 million.

Geoffrey and Kenneth, who are sons to two of the Governor’s sisters, had accused Prof Nyong’o of leaving them out in administering the estate of the late of Hesbon Shimei Nyong’o.

Geoffrey is the eldest son of Prof Nyong’o’s sister Judith Akoth and was raised by his grandfather after his mother’s death. Governor Nyong’o’s other sister Margaret Awuor, who is Kenneth’s maternal mother, died in 1994.

In response to the suit, the Kisumu Governor accused his two nephews of being ungrateful, indisciplined, and seeking to extort him through the civil suit.

He added that he had raised them as his own children and they could not, therefore, benefit from their grandfather’s estate or inherit him while he was still alive. In a sworn affidavit he said:

I believe that having taken parental responsibility of the applicants and adopted them as my own children, they cannot claim from the estate of our father neither can they inherit from me when I am still alive.”

The Governor’s affidavit was supported by his sister Dr. Risper Nyagoy Nyong’o, who stated that Prof Nyong’o had housed the two applicants, paid their school fees and even secured jobs for them in the Grand Coalition government where he served as a Cabinet Minister.

The Governor and his sisters added that their nephews had a long history of being difficult children in addition to being involved in drug abuse.
