A family in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha is calling for justice over the controversial death of their 32-year-old daughter whose body was found floating in an underground water tank.

Relatives of Ann Njeri claim that their daughter was murdered by someone close to her before the body was thrown in the tank in Governor's village a few kilometres from Mai Mahiu area.

But police have alleged that the deceased who was living alone could have committed suicide after falling out with her boyfriend.

The body of the deceased was found floating in the tank by the brother-in-law James Ngugi who in turn called the police.

A relative said that the deceased had fallen out with his longtime boyfriend before she met her death in unclear circumstances.

The relative who declined to be named dismissed the suicide theory noting that the deceased was foaming from the mouth when the body was recovered.

The kin added that they found the deceased shoes next to the tank before police arrested the boyfriend only to release him hours later.

“We believe that Njeri was murdered and the body dumped in the tank and all we are asking for is justice and the arrest of the killer,” said the relative.

The OCPD confirmed the incident adding that they were waiting for a post mortem to determine the cause of death.

“One suspect has recorded a statement after the body was recovered and it's only a post mortem that will guide us in this case,” he said.
