The Kenya Sevens Rugby Team will be contented with playing in the Bowl after going down 17-7 against England in their second match of the Hong Kong IRB series.

After losing yesterday’s opening match to United States, the national side went into the match knowing another loss will end their dreams of playing in the main cup quarter finals.

Kenya started on a good note but lost possession following unsuccessful kick from Collins Injera, from there England pushed the national side and they soon got their first try through Tom Bowen.

England were capitalizing on Kenya’s defensive errors and they got their second try trough James Rodwell to take a 10-0 lead at the breather.

Kenya came back in the second half much better and their efforts were rewarded as Collins Injera scored his second try in this tournament which was dully converted by Lavin Asego to reduce the score line to 10-7.

It was anyone’s game at this point as Kenya pressed for another try. Lavin Asego released Billy Odhiambo but he lost possession and the national side was heavily punished as England scored the third try through Phil Burgess and this time round Tom Mitchell made no mistake as he converted the resulting try to stretch their lead to 17-7 with less than two minutes to stoppage time.

Shujaa’s efforts to get their second try proved fruitless as England held on to win their second match and cruise to the quarter finals before meeting United States in their final match. USA are also through to the last eight after thrashing Wales 40-12 in their second match.

Kenya will now play Wales at 10.14 am in their final group D match.
