the first time since 2006 – admittedly, the last time I watched a Chelsea football match – the Argentinian football player of the year is a different one. Manchester United's Angel Di Maria takes the honour this year, beating Lione Messi who has held the position for all this time.

This may be partly due to his £59 millon record transfer to Manchester United this year. He also played a major role by helping Argentina land a slot at the World Cup and helping beat Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The United winger started off his career by playing for Rosario Central, later on signing with Benfica and ultimately landed a major deal with Real Madrid on a €25 million transfer.
