Life can be cruel! CS Amina Mohamed mourns sudden death of comedian

The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture And Heritage Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed has sent out a condolence message to the family and friends of John Gift.

John Simiyu Masinde popularly known as John Gift passed after being hospitalised for a short illness. He was a fourth-year student at the University of Eldoret.

The comedian who does purely Luhya standup died suddenly. His pal, Mulamwah broke the sad news to fans of John Gift.

"LIFE CAN BE CRUEL AT TIMES 😭. COMEDIAN JOHN GIFT IS DEAD. THE CAUSE OF DEATH IS NOT YET CLEAR BUT HE WAS IN ICU BEFORE BEING PRONOUNCED DEAD EARLY TODAY (JUNE 2)," MULAMWAH SAID. 

According to sources, John Gift was bleeding from his nose and mouth at the time he was rushed to the hospital and was immediately admitted to the ICU.

His family had just learnt that he was fighting for his life in hospital and hours later, he was pronounced dead.

MULAMWA ADDED, "I ACTED WITH HIM MY LAST VIDEO CLIP LAST THURSDAY 30TH MAY AND HE WAS OKAY. RIP BROTHER. SHINE ON. MORE INFORMATION CONCERNING HIS SUDDEN DEATH WILL BE COMMUNICATED. IT’S A BIG BLOW TO THE COMEDY INDUSTRY, HE WAS SUCH A CREATIVE MIND. RIP JOHNNY."

CS Amina said in her message, "It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the death of John Simiyu Masinde popularly known as John Gift, a budding talented comedian from Bungoma County."

Adding, "John hit the comedy scene in a unique way; using his vernacular Bukusu dialect to entertain his fans and by extension promoting the local language and culture. He was also keen on growing his fan base across the country and beyond through YouTube."

Amina continued, "On behalf of the Ministry, I wish John’s family, relatives, friends and fans God’s fortitude to overcome this great loss. May he rest in eternal peace."
