Radio and TV host Amina Abdi has shared her experience interacting with an underage sex worker in Kisii.

Sabina (not her real name) is a 10-year-old girl living in Kisii who was initiated into prostitution by her mother at the tender age of 8.

Sabina said her mother was focused on educating her male children and did not think girls need to go to school.

Amina said, "I was not ready (for that interview). Whenever I'm done with the Trend it's usually late and I find prostitutes on the street (in Nairobi) and usually talk to them, but in Kisii there were girls on the street as young as 10."

She spoke on Wednesday during her radio show - Capital in the Morning - which she co-hosts with Maqbul.

Sabina said,

i got into prostitution when i was 8 years.MY MOTHER TOLD ME TO Do THIS JOB,I TOLD HER THAT  DID NOT WANT TO, BUT SHE INSISTED THAT I GO.

Sabina said she asked her cousin - who pays her brother's school fees - to do the same for her but he refused to do so. She said,

he said I'm a girl so i don't need to go to school.

Two years into the prostitution business, Sabina's only cry is to join a school and experience a normal childhood like other girls who are her age.

She sent a message to her mother stating,

Mum, I want to go to school like my brother

After weighing all of her options and seeing that no one wants to help her chase her dreams, Sabina has resorted to taking matters into her own hands.

She is on a mission to search for a school that will take her in.

Amina has appealed to well-wishers to reach out for details on how to help Sabina and others like her.
