Ambulance, The Driver Of Rongai Killer Matatu Released On SH1 Million Bond (DETAILS)

The driver - known by his street name Ambulance - of the Ongata line Sacco matatu who killed 5 people in an accident has been released on a Sh1 million bond. The accident caused so much uproar, read the details below.

However, Ambulance, real name Francis Mukuria Kinyanjui, will stay in custody for 14 days for police to conclude investigations. The magistrate said that despite the public outrage and protests the case elicited, the accused can't be denied his constitutional right to bond.

Ambulance surrendered himself to the police on Monday after he was informed officers were looking for him.

On Tuesday last week, Multimedia University students blocked Magadi Road in Nairobi to protest the killing of a schoolmate by the matatu last Sunday.

, reports that the students demonstrated for several days, accusing drivers of matatus that ply the Ongata Rongai-city centre route of recklessness.

The protest forced commuters to trek to their destinations as the NTSA revoked the licences of more than 100 matatus following the accident.

The students noted their schoolmate Cynthia Akoth died from her injuries in hospital after the bus veered off the road and overturned.

Akoth was a first year, first semester student who was admitted to the university in September for a degree in applied communication.

Simeon Maranga, Multimedia University of Kenya Students Association president, said that their demonstration was in support of road safety.
