The first half of the 2015 KPL season is over. Clubs are busy searching for players boost their squad and AFC Leopards is among the clubs that have dropped some players who are said to be unproductive. Among those dropped by Ingwe are former captain Martin Imbalambala, defender Anthony "Modo" Kimani and Titus Wamalwa.

Ingwe has been experiencing financial problems since the start of the season after her main sponsor Mumias Sugar pulled out. Well-wishers among them Kenyan International Victor Wanyama came to the rescue of the team recently by donating some cash while politicians have been sporadically bailing out the club, although there've been accusations by the playing unit that most of these handouts are ending up in the pockets of the officials.

The players from the "moneybag" team have nothing to smile about as many of them are said to be struggling to make ends meet but, Anthony "Modo" Kimani has impressed many by opening a spare parts shop in Ngara, less than a week after being let go.

Does it mean Modo was ready to be dropped by AFC Leopards? Or is he simply a very organised person who understands that the life of a footballer in Kenya requires that you have another source of income?

Modo, who signed for AFC Leopards in 2014 from Mathare United, was also a freelance football analyst on Kiss TV from 2012-2013 and it seems he was saving every penny he earned for a rainy day. And it's raining now.

We are not sure if he has called it a day in football and whether this is just a side hustle, but we wish him well and urge other footballers to learn from him.
