Remember Akuku Danger the famous Kenyan polygamist? Well there’s a younger version of him in Cameroon. Abumbi II, the 11th king, of Bafut, Cameroon is currently trending after his story was highlighted on CNN. The King has close to 100 wives after inheriting his late father’s, 72 wives.
According to their customs and traditions, when a king dies, his successor inherits all of his wives and so Abumbi II, had to fulfill tradition by inheriting his 72 mothers. Abumbi II, became the 11th fon, or king, of Bafut after the death of his father in 1968.
All the wives and close to 500 children live at the Bafut Palace, Cameroon.
Kenya’s Akuku Danger, is said to have married 130 women, divorced more than 80 times and had more than 200 children. He was 94 when he passed on in 2010.
