On Wednesday September 24 at 9:00am, in what is destined to be a key moment for M-Net in the market, its existing Africa Magic Swahili that airs on DStv channel 158 and GOtv channel 3 will be rebranded with a new name, and going forward the channel will be known as Maisha Magic Swahili.

This latest development brings the channel in line with the new Maisha Magic identity that the television operator recently launched, a brand which has already been enthusiastically embraced throughout East Africa. Following the launch of the general entertainment focussed Maisha Magic(DStv channel 161) earlier this month, Maisha Magic Swahili is the latest step from M-Net to entrench a more relevant channel brand for the region.

Commenting on the name change, M-Net Director for East Africa Michael Ndetei is positive about the future of Swahili programming, as content in one of the world’s oldest languages remains in high demand. “Africa Magic Swahili was launched in 2011 to showcase Swahili culture and to meet a wide audience demand for such a platform. Now, three years later, while the name may be changing, the objective to celebrate Swahili content still remains central to Maisha Magic Swahili. We are however very excited to be rebranding the channel, as the new name serves to again remind our audiences that our commitment to East Africa is tangible, ongoing and evolving.”

Highlights coming up on Maisha Magic Swahili over the next few weeks include a festival of big name Tanzanian movies made in the past two years. Viewers can tune in on 5th October for Nguvu ya Imani starring Simon Mwapangata and Khadija Mohammed as well as Waves of sorrow on 12th October starring Khadija Mohammed, Rose Ndauka and Vincent Kigosi. Then on 2nd November Rose Ndauka is back on the spotlight alongside Salma Jabu and Salim Omari when the channel screens Trapped.

Other content from Tanzania included on the channel are the series Siri ya Mtungi and High Heels.  In addition, audiences can still tune in for the popular favourite Mashariki Mix, hosted in Swahili by the gorgeous, talented Sarah Hassan. Other must-watch programs on the channel include Sumu la Penzi, Ajabu, Kijakazi and Taxi Driver. Plus fans can look out for exciting movie titles from the Africa Magic Original Films initiative, which has also been rebranded in East Africa and is now called the Maisha Magic Original Films initiative.
