Afande akule kitu kidogo lakini sio bibi ya mtu! A man who was caught on CCTV footage running over a police officer of the law (because there are police officers of lawlessness?) was arraigned in court for his actions.
And it was while in court as he pled his case that more information and the motive behind the act were laid bare. And what he said was that on the October 24th, Constable Henry Kemboi, saw his life flashing before his eyes but is lucky to be alive.
Constable Henry Kemboi was hit by a motorist while on duty at Likoni Road. And as I said, it was captured on CCTV.
The assailant was identified as Geoffrey Sungura Wekesa when he was arrested on Friday. The suspect on Monday appeared before Milimani chief magistrate Francis Andayi to answer to charges of attempted murder.
Geoffrey Wekesa through his lawyer told the court hat the traffic officer had been having an affair with his wife. The suspect’s lawyer Peter Wakiaga says the police officer based at Makongeni Police Station caused his client’s marriage to crumble.
The lawyer begged the court to release his client on lenient terms. He argues that the suspect is the mother and father of his children following the separation with his wife.
Constable Henry Kemboi’s lawyer Bernard Kanyiri says the suspect had been acting with impunity. He reveals that Wekesa had been using his influence to avoid arrest until Friday when he was arrested.
Mr. Kanyiri says his client was served with a transfer letter to Turkana County for allegedly demanding punishment of his assailant.
Geoffrey Wekesa was however released on a cash bail of Kesh 500,000 with an alternative bond of Kes 1 million. The case will be mentioned on 20th November 2017.
