After what happened to American rapper Tyga last week; where his new album 'The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty' went "aluminum" after selling only 2,200 copies on the first week, I now understand that the entertainment industry is sometimes all about the hype.

Kenyan artistes work really hard and spend sleepless nights in studio to put out an album, then what many Kenyan do is to download them, then go on social media to rant about the quality of his video.

The best thing we can do is to buy their albums. At the same time artistes also need to make sure their albums are available on different outlets. I personally had a tough time looking for Kenyan albums on iTunes.

Here are 7 Kenyan music albums everyone should have;

1. Octopizzo - Octopizzo is arguably one of the best rappers in the country. He titled his first album after Kibera’s nickname “Chocolate City” and, was released in 2014. His second studio album titled L.D.P.C will also be launched soon.

2. Daddy Owen - After being in the industry for 10 years, this very hardworking fellow just launched his 5th album “Vanity”, you definitely have to get this one.

3. Just a band - They are actually one of the most successful Kenyan bands, and those who like their genre of music will definitely tell you why you must listen to their albums; Usinibore, Scratch to Reveal and 82.

4. Juliani - The award winning 'gospel' star has 3 really awesome albums namely; Mtaa Mentality, Pulpit Kwa Street, and the latest Exponential Potential.

5. Sauti Sol - The afro-pop band is currently riding high with their new single "Nerea" which is off their third album titled "Live and Die in Africa". Their other albums which you should get are Mwanzo and Sol Filosofia.

6. Fena Gitu - Unfortunately, the only lady on this list. There are VERY few Kenyan female artistes who have albums. This was a properly done album that everyone should definitely get.

7. King Kaka - I recently realized that he wants to be known as King Kaka and not Kaka Sungura, which is a good thing since he's proven he is the king in his zone. The Legend of Kaka is King Kaka's fourth album and one of the best albums in the industry.

8. E-sir - Last but not least, I think all Kenyan should have his album. He is the pioneer of the urban local music who was unfortunately plucked from the Kenyan music industry prematurely.

"His album has made a significant contribution to the Kenya music industry by redefining "local" music. Ever timeless, Nimefika has set the pace on sales for Kenya Urban Music as we know it today." - Ogopa
