Six bodies of tourists have been recovered. They are among the seven tourists carried by flash floods at Hell's Gate National Park on Sunday 1, September 2019.

The Kenya Wildlife Service has launched rescue operations for one missing person following flash floods at Hell's Gate in Naivasha.

On Sunday, KWS announced that an unknown number of tourists as feared dead after drowning in the flash floods while others survived.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce a tragedy in Hell’s Gate National Park in which an unknown number of tourists are feared to have drowned in flash floods while others survived.

This is not the first time such an accident has occurred. Seven church members were killed in flash floods at Hell's gate in 2012.

Park guides rescued eight others.

Speaking at the time KWS spokesman Paul Udoto said 53 members from the Mukara Presbyterian Church of East Africa youth group in Nairobi were visiting the park on a Sunday when the incident happened.

"The seven people had gone missing just before dusk, when the group encountered sudden flash floods," he said in a statement
