With the most affluent international music artistes amassing a large part of their wealth from businesses out of music, here are four Kenyan musicians that have since tapped into the business realm.

1. Sauti Sol

In a move reminiscence to Hip Hop legend Dr. Dre and his Beats By Dre headphones, acclaimed boyband Sauti Sol has taken the precedence by recently launching their own line of earbuds christened ‘PaceSol’.

In a partnership of their brand - Sol Generation Records Limited - with Keep Pace Africa Limited of the famed Pace headphones, the band availed the product in a pomp launch.

The earphones are tuned by the band and is said to be the maiden product of many more to come.

2. J Blessing

Gospel singer cum producer and now businessman J Blessing made a seminal move in 2017 when he appended a deal with headphone maker Pace Communication Limited.

His line, Keep Pace Africa Limited; of headphones, soon after debuted at Ksh. 5,500 in the market and was widely received by celebrities, which consequently rippled down to massive sales.

The producer recently signed a deal with the aforementioned Sol Generations Records Limited owned by Sauti Sol.

3. King Kaka

If King Kaka’s archetypal business look is anything to go by he might just be the most enterprising businessman in the music industry.

The rapper launched Kaka Empire – a label and talent managing company which crescendoed circa 2016 when he had signed a variety of talents to his company including; Femi One, Phy, Avril, Pascal Tokodi, and a couple of DJ’s.

In 2018 he signed a deal with French Cognac maker Remy Martin as a brand regional ambassador.

His business spoils had telecommunication giants Safaricom invite him as a Blaze Be Your Own Boss mentor, not as a musical artiste but a prospering entrepreneur.

4. Akothee

Singer Akothee sits on this list commanding the most business endeavours.

The singer is mostly known for owning Akothee Safaris – a travel and tour business but also owns Akothee Foundation, Ankotella and Akothee Homes – real estate.

In 2019 she signed a deal to be the brand ambassador for Weston Hotel a posh 5 star hotel owned by Deputy President William Ruto.

Akothee has so much in her bag that music is beginning to sound like a side gig.
