4 Days To Go! Kenyans In Diaspora Need To Register To Vote

The highly anticipated general election takes place on August 8th this year. There are many reasons why a Kenyan living abroad should register to vote in the next general elections. Among them is the fact that being part of this major event is exercising your constitutional right.

You are eligible to vote for the President of the Republic of Kenya. The voter registration for Kenyans living abroad ends on 6th March 2017.

Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates can be designated by the Commission as registration centres for Kenyans living outside the country. For purposes of the 2017 Elections, the Commission will conduct voter registration in Bujumbura in Burundi, Arusha and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Kigali in Rwanda, Kampala in Uganda and Pretoria in South Africa.

-Be a Kenyan citizen,

-Be 18 years of age and above,

-Have a valid Kenyan passport

-Be of sound mind.

-Not have been convicted of an election offence during the preceding five years

Once you have passed the qualification stage, the next thing to do is to visit the designated registration to do your registration. You should carry your valid passport. You will then fill in the Application for Registration form (Form J). After that, you will be given a registration acknowledgement slip bearing your voter’s details. However, this will not a requirement for you to vote.
